Dehydration occurs when your body loses more fluids than it takes in, leading to an imbalance in essential electrolytes and bodily functions. Understanding the effects of dehydration on your body is crucial for maintaining optimal health. Here’s what happens when you become dehydrated:
Thirst: One of the first signs of dehydration is thirst. Your body's natural mechanism to signal the need for fluids kicks in when it senses a decrease in hydration levels.
Dry Mouth and Lips: As dehydration progresses, you may experience dryness in your mouth and lips. Saliva production decreases, leading to discomfort and a parched feeling.
Decreased Urination: Your kidneys conserve water by reducing urine output when you're dehydrated. This can lead to darker, more concentrated urine.
Fatigue and Weakness: Dehydration can cause fatigue and weakness as your body struggles to function optimally without adequate fluids. This can impact both physical and mental performance.
